About Us
Who We Are
- I am Donna Franklin, and my journey underscores the profound significance of child nutrition. Over the years, I have spearheaded a program dedicated to nourishing countless children. Through a strategic collaboration with SCUCISD, our initiative empowers school counselors to equip backpacks with wholesome meals and snacks, ensuring sustenance for vulnerable children throughout weekends.
- My vision extends beyond the current scope. I aspire to extend this vital program citywide, encompassing every child in San Antonio. Your invaluable support, coupled with the opportunities presented by this contest, will propel us towards realizing this ambition. Together, we can provide essential nourishment for every child in our community.
Our Story
- As a child, my siblings and I faced the stark reality of hunger in our home. Memories of scarce meals haunt my past, where school provided not just education but often our sole sustenance. We arrived each day with empty stomachs, relying on the generosity of free breakfast and lunch programs. The toll of malnutrition cast a shadow over our health, a burden we still bear from our deprived upbringing.
- I refuse to stand idly by as others endure similar struggles. Rising from poverty to a successful career in real estate, my journey has been defined by a commitment to giving back. Compassion has always driven me, a guiding force leading me to establish a program aimed at supporting children facing the same hardships I once did.
- Through this initiative, we supply essential backpacks filled with nourishment, ensuring no child faces the weekend with an empty stomach. The opportunity to include provisions for their siblings reflects the empathy woven into every aspect of our efforts. For years, I've grappled with how to extend this assistance to more children, not just in San Antonio but beyond.
- This project serves as a beacon of hope, offering a platform to expand our reach and fulfill our mission.
